a church, in a garden, at a home, or some other location. Everyone is
excited, patting us on the back. We get the congratulations, then we
are shoved out the door to figure out how to do it, how to be
married. And every other couple walking out the door will face divorce.

Marriage is difficult, we tell ourselves. But marriage is NOT as
difficult as we make it out to be. The problem is, we dont know what
makes a marriage work, what the secret to a marriage really is.

Couples who discover the secret (really a series of secrets)
survive. And if they learn enough, they thrive. Then, they realize that
marriage is not difficult, you just have to understand it.

We just love to moan and cry about how difficult it is to be married

Who Am I?

My name is Lee Baucom. If you Google me, you will discover over 101,000
results. Some of the results might be about races I was in (dont hold

I have been interviewed for articles in magazines such as Mens Health,
the japanese language Time, a Golf magazine, and many newspaper
articles. 20/20 called for advice and help on a story about marriage,
as did several reality shows.

Several years back, I wrote an ebook, Save The Marriage. That ebook has
sold nearly 50,000 copies to couples all over the world. Then, I hosted

Because of these events, I have had many opportunities to talk with

After spending almost 20 years saving marriage after marriage, I have

successful, happy marriage and other couples have dismal, painful,

I quickly noticed that there are some distinct differences between the

Divorce Is Not The Answer,
And Therapy May Not Help!

People often ask me if I believe in divorce. My joking response is yes,
Ive seen it. I believe in it. I just think it can, almost always, be
avoided. I dont believe in saving abusive relationships. However, I
think we too easily end marriages more often than not -- and for easily
avoided reasons!

The statistics are quoted and known by everyone: nearly 1 in 2
marriages end in divorce. Weve already established that. But that
statistic doesnt change for couples who go to therapy. According to

Imagine going to a doctor. He tells you that you need to undergo a

marital therapy.

And the statistics for 2nd and 3rd (and 4th, 5th, 6th, etc.) marriages
are dismal. The chance of staying married in a following marriage are
MUCH lower than 50%. So, divorce doesnt solve anything.

Besides, divorces: rarely end a relationship (children keep you
attached, like it or not), destroy finances (both in direct divorce
costs -- average cost is $20,000, plus emotional costs and financial
losses), undermine happiness, and have a negative impact on children.

So, divorce isnt the answer. Marital therapy likely wont help. And an
unhappy marriage doesnt cut it. IS THERE AN ANSWER?
